Asynchronous Offerings...

We would love as many humans to gather around the question: What is it to be human?...

With this in mind, how about trying some of these things ‘at home’ in your own time / time zone… Below are just some ideas for us humans to explore the question either with other humans (physically or virtually) or by yourself.

If you partake in any of these offerings – or have your own ideas of experiences/experiments to ‘hold the space’ for: What is it to be human?... Please get in touch through our (channels) or (email)

We’d love to hear your reflections!

Walk & Talk
If you have the opportunity to take exercise away from your lockdown – why not try a 'walk & talk' with another human about the question: What is it to be human?

Try it out with someone or just by yourself.

Many philosopher type humans from history to the present day have contemplated how movement (walking) is powerful to allow the ‘space’ for humans to think (and talk). See here for a nice summary:

Conversations over the garden fence (across balconies etc… ; )
If your isolation is more strict at the moment (or you can’t leave home) why not try a variation on a 'conversation...

Connect with a neighbours or those close by ‘over the garden fence’, ‘across balconies’, ‘over the road’ etc etc. You get the idea.

Get to know your know those around you in a different way exploring: What is it to be human? ...for them as well as yourself.

'Humans at mealtimes
We hope to offer a live version of this on the 1st May – though comprehending the logistics of having all humans over the world for dinner would require a massive ‘virtual’ table – and a mammoth 'virtual’ kitchen to cook for all!

Sharing food together is a wonderful part of being human and can be great for opening conversations (if we're not too immersed in the tasty food we have on our plate)

If you can’t make it to the live virtual offerings – why not spend a mealtime with those in your house (or other virtual humans in their homes) and use the question: What is it to be human?... as your mealtime conversation.

Human through the eyes of children
This is a great one for parents home- schooling or looking to get the kids involved in something (anything!) to keep them occupied ; ) This is also a good intro to the philosophy classroom and who knows possibly great for inspiring budding philosophers, not to mention the future of humankind!

(Maybe get the arts and crafts materials out too and let the kids be creative with the question)

Growing up with fresh eyes, playing and experiencing the world and other humans around is a wonderful part of the experience of being a human child. It’s all part of ‘growing up’ and exploring the universe around us and within us. As adults we find this is much more of a challenge to retain fresh eyes and not filter the world through our many experiences gathered in life. So… why not take a view of human through children.

Why not ask the kids in your house: What is it to be human?

We believe there will be some beautiful responses from them.

Meditation
If there are any meditators (yes we said meditators) then why not try using the question: What is it to be human?... to contemplate on. We hope to have some (live or recorded) guided meditations too – but feel free to make your own version.

It’s a great way to create space for yourself, release and relieve from stresses, and get some perspective about what’s really important to you.

Remember, meditation is not just about sitting cross-legged and being 'zen'. Enlightenment and a sense of flow inside can happen through activity too – so do what works for you!

Virtual humans
If none of the above really ‘do it for you’ or you’ve done all of them and want more – then just making connections with people that you know (or strangers that can become new human connections and friends) is a great way to get involved. We hope the question: What is it to be human? Will stimulate some interesting conversations and experiences.

What else?...be:  Open and free

If you have other ideas for creating space for: What is it to be human? We’d love you to just do it!... and share reflections:  (here)

You could (if you are bold and courageous humans) even make your own live experience within your own groups and record it to share with us humans here too.

...Finally, if you have some other thoughts of how to explore the question: What is it to be human?... And would just like to share the idea of the experience with us – rather than do it right now, feel free to contact us by (email) – we’d love to hear from you.

Remember if you’d be generous enough to offer something for other human beings and would like us to post the offer on the website and through our channels – fill out this (form)
